Capacity and Capability

No matter what your situation or budget, we have a wide range of rebuild options designed to deliver the best return for your business.

We offer a range of rebuild programs to restore your machines, systems and components to like-new condition at a fraction of the cost of buying new.

Reconditioning, repairing and rebuilding major components when they reach the end of their lives makes good sense for your business. If you wait until the component fails, a repair or rebuild will be much more expensive. Repairs after failure average 2.5 times higher than repairs before failure – not to mention the lost productivity related to your unplanned downtime, which can seriously impact your bottom line.

Built to be rebuilt

Cat machines, power trains and major components are “built to be rebuilt” so you get maximum benefit from the multiple lives designed into Cat machines and components.

However, deciding on a rebuild option is not always a simple decision. Rebuilds can include a complete overhaul of your equipment – stripping it right back to its chassis and rebuilding it to like-new for 60% of the cost of a new machine – or it can be a rebuild focused on power train or specific components, which is a more economical option that will give your ageing machine a ‘second life’.

Certified Machine Component Rebuild

Restoring a key component’s original performance and durability—plus incorporating product enhancements introduced after it was manufactured—improves the reliability of your machine and greatly extends its productive service life.

A Cat® Certified Machine Component Rebuild will give you the option to restore specific components, such as your engine, transmission, torque converter, axle assemblies or final drives, to like-new condition at a fraction helping you get maximum return on your original machine investment.

Certified Powertrain Rebuild

The heart of any piece of equipment is the power train. A Cat Certified Power Train Rebuild is a cost-effective way to maximise the multiple lives that are designed in to a Cat® machine, during the rebuild all components are inspected, repaired and overhauled and the required product updates carried out.

Want even higher levels of performance and fuel efficiency at a much lower price than buying new? Upgrade or retrofit your power train and machine with new features, technologies and safety options available on today’s models. It’s an affordable way to enhance your power train even further while it’s already in the shop for a rebuild with no additional downtime required.

*Your rebuilt power train will generate information you can use to boost productivity, reduce costs and manage risks. Cat Product Link is standard equipment on all Cat Certified Power Train Rebuilds.

Certified Engine Rebuild

Durability, dependability, performance: those are just some of the reasons people invest in Cat power. Now you can add another reason to the list: Cat engines can be rebuilt for a second life—at a fraction of the cost of an engine replacement.

Restoring your engine’s original performance and durability—plus incorporating product enhancements introduced after it was manufactured—improves its reliability and efficiency and greatly extends its productive service life. A Cat® Certified Commercial Engine Rebuild returns your marine propulsion engine, generator set, pump, locomotive or other engine to like-new condition, helping you get maximum return on your original investment.

Certified Machine Rebuild

Keep the machine you’re comfortable using while restoring its original performance and productivity—plus benefit from product enhancements introduced after it was manufactured. Because it’s rebuilt, updated, serviced and supported to the high standards required by Caterpillar, a Cat Certified Machine Rebuild can capture significantly higher resale value. It’s the best way to get maximum return on your original machine investment.

Rebuild STEPS TO A LIKE-NEW machine, engine, or component

Our highly trained service professionals together with our specialised equipment, stringent quality control and the latest technical information will guarantee your component system is rebuilt to the highest standards.

INSPECTION and EVALUATION

  • Perform fluid analysis, visual inspections and other tests.
  • Review available service history.
  • A comprehensive evaluation of your power train including fluid analysis, visual inspections and maintenance procedure reviews are carried out to determine a customised rebuild plan and an accurate cost estimate.

Complete Disassembly

  • Replace old parts with new or re-manufactured Cat parts
  • Determine reuse of internal parts; replace others with new or re manufactured Cat parts
  • Once a rebuild plan is determined the power train is completely disassembled. Parts including hoses, belts, seals, gaskets, bearings, knobs, wiring, switches and gauges are replaced with new parts. All remaining parts are inspected and measured against our strict re-usability guidelines.
  • Any parts that don’t meet the guidelines are either replaced with new or Cat reman parts, or are reconditioned to meet our guidelines.

Reconditioning and Engineering Updates

  • Overhaul components (depending on rebuild type) including hoses, motors, pumps, travel motors, final drives, swing motors, main valve, main pump and joystick controls.
  • Install new unit injectors, bearings, electronic control modules, software, engine harness and more
  • Make improvements introduced after the original manufacture date.
  • Recondition components to include the latest engineering designs.

SYSTEM TESTING

  • Inspect and test all engine systems, including fuel, oil and coolant systems.
  • The engine, fuel system, transmission, torque converter, differential, final drives and radiator are disassembled, inspected, reconditioned and updated with new or qualified parts.
  • Inspect, recondition, update and bench test hydraulic system.
  • Each component is thoroughly bench-tested before re-installation.

REASSEMBLY and Repainting

  • Maintain all critical torques, clearances and pressure settings; replace all wire harnesses associated with hydraulic system; replace or recondition all hydraulic cylinders, hoses, pumps, valves and motors
  • Check and maintain critical component tolerances, replace all electrical items and perform quality checks on specific torque specifications
  • During the reassembly of your power train all critical torques, clearances and pressure settings are maintained and recorded. Engine wiring harnesses are always replaced.
  • Maintain all critical torques, clearances and pressure settings; replace all wiring
  • Paint components; apply Cat identification plates, graphics and decals.

Performance Testing

  • Test and adjust hydraulic system components to proper specifications
  • Conduct dynamometer, turbocharger boost, throttle response, and horsepower and torque tests
  • Conduct quality and performance tests
  • Rigorous testing is conducted through several stages of the rebuild process to ensure quality control.
  • Standard tests performed are turbocharger boost, throttle response, stall speed rpm, transmission and steering clutch response, plus hydraulic and pilot relief valve pressures.
  • Contamination control procedures recommended by Caterpillar are also implemented to maximise system cleanliness.

Final Inspection and Customer Evaluation

  • Test and adjust hydraulic system components to proper specifications.
  • Install components and test all supporting systems to ensure proper operation and peak performance (performed by a certified service technician).
  • Ensure customer satisfaction with performance in the working environment.
  • The rebuild process is only complete when you and your operators are completely satisfied with the performance of the power train in its working environment.
